Whether you're kitting out a Grimdark Future army, a five-model Firefight team, a Warpath battle line or a Deadzone strike team, there's always the same moment: you've found the helmets, pads or weapons you want, and now you have to pick how to get them. Every BW Terrain & Forge part comes in up to three ways: Grey Resin, Digital STL and SPEEDY Resin. Here's how to choose.
The quick answer
- No printer, and you can wait? Grey Resin.
- Own a resin printer, or building a big force? Digital STL.
- No printer, and you need it soon? SPEEDY Resin.
Grey Resin: printed for you
Grey Resin is the easy button. We print the parts in sharp, display-quality grey resin and ship them to you, with every part separate and no sprue to clip. Grey shows off detail beautifully and takes primer like a dream.
The catch is time. Every order is printed to order, so allow about 4–6 weeks for production before it ships, and a little longer around holidays and big sales.
Good to know: resin is built for crisp detail rather than flex. Thin blades, antennae and banner poles can snap if they're bent or dropped, so handle them like the fine parts they are. Expect a few small support nubs to trim and sand before you glue. Use super glue (cyanoacrylate), because plastic cement won't bond resin.
Best for: hobbyists without a printer, character conversions, and anyone who wants a few sets done right without learning a new machine.
Digital STL: print it yourself
Digital STL files download instantly after payment. They come unsupported, so you can orient and support them the way your printer likes. Your personal-use license lets you print as many copies as your own armies need.
That's where STLs shine. A Grimdark Future or Warpath army can need dozens of matching helmets, pads and weapons across several squads, and printing them yourself costs far less per part than buying them printed. Need a spare because the cat batted one under the workbench? Print another.
The catch: you need a resin printer, plus the wash-and-cure setup and safety gear that come with it, and some patience dialing in supports for tiny parts. If you scale a file up or down, remember that sockets and mounting points scale too, so do a test print before running a whole squad.
Best for: printer owners, big armies, and hobbyists who like to tinker.
SPEEDY Resin: the concierge fast lane
SPEEDY Resin is for when game night, a campaign weekend or a tournament is coming up and 4–6 weeks is too long. Put down a $10 deposit and we go hunting for a trusted print partner near you. You get a personal quote with the full price, shipping and delivery window for your approval before anything is printed, so there are no surprises.
The catch: because a local partner prints it, resin color can vary from print shop to print shop. Prime everything and nobody will ever know.
Best for: deadlines, and hobbyists without a printer who don't want to wait.
Which one fits your project?
- One hero conversion: Grey Resin, or SPEEDY if the game is soon. A character kit and a unique helmet go a long way.
- A Firefight team or Deadzone strike team: small model counts make Grey Resin affordable. Mix a few helmet and weapon sets so every model is its own fighter.
- A full Grimdark Future or Warpath army: STL wins on cost if you print. If you don't, buy Grey Resin squad by squad as your list grows.
- A squad needed by Saturday: SPEEDY Resin.
Mix and match
You don't have to pick just one. Plenty of hobbyists print the rank-and-file bits from STL and order a leader's parts in Grey Resin, or grab a SPEEDY order to finish a unit for an event while the rest of the army prints at home. Every option uses the same original sculpts, so the parts match on the table.
